When they sign a new account, they go ahead and blast the client page with loads of spam, or outsource the client work with the same results. Eventually, Google finds the spam and brakes the client site, so the domain is no business. Google likes to protect their search products and revenue, so they hit with site-wide (domain) penalties, de-indexing actions, algorithm updates impacting millions of pages.
Risk factors: You lose track with hundreds of changes per year. Bing, Yandex, Baidu, Yahoo do not update frequently, but they provide little traffic.
